FAQs

Directions, location and parking

About four minutes by car or one stop on the ski bus. From the centre of Mayrhofen, the road towards Zell am Ziller leads directly past the valley station.

By ski bus – the ski bus terminal is right at the valley station and is served from all villages in the inner Zillertal. With the Zillertalbahn, get off in Hippach or Mayrhofen and take the bus from there

No, parking at the Horbergbahn is free. Even in the main holiday weeks you will usually find a space, because the car park is generously sized.

Yes, with the 3D tour. You walk virtually through the rental area, depot and workshop and know in advance where you need to go.

Mainly from Mayrhofen, Hippach, Schwendau, Ramsau, Finkenberg and Zell am Ziller. If you ski in Zillertal 3000 or on the Penken, the Horbergbahn is the shortest way up.

Yes, at +43 677 6367 9309. For questions about availability or sizes, this is often quicker than an e-mail.

Opening hours and season

We open at the beginning of December, as soon as the Horbergbahn starts operating. The exact date is posted on the opening hours page from autumn.

No, the shop stays closed during the summer months. We still answer enquiries by e-mail.

Yes, during the season we are there for you every day – including Christmas, New Year's Eve and on the busy changeover Saturdays.

Early in the morning before half past eight and in the late afternoon. It is busiest on Saturday and Sunday, because that is when most arrivals coincide. With an online booking you skip most of the waiting time.

By closing time on the evening of the last rental day. If you are leaving early, let us know – we will find a solution.

Reservation, booking and discount

Dropping in is fine, but during the holiday weeks a reservation is the safer option. Between Christmas and early January and during the February school holidays, popular sizes go quickly.

Then we exchange it. The online booking sets the category; we determine the exact length and the boot together on site.

? Yes. If the snow is different than expected or you feel more comfortable with another model, we will swap it – even from skis to snowshoes or a toboggan.

The reservation secures your equipment and discount; payment is made when you pick it up in the shop.

? Yes, just get in touch by phone or WhatsApp. The details are set out in our terms and conditions.

Yes, you enter everyone with height, age and weight in one booking. This significantly shortens the time in the shop on the day of arrival.

Prices

Silber is the all-round carver for beginners and intermediates, Gold covers intermediate to very good skiers, Platin are the top models for experts and Diamant the latest race skis. We will work out which class suits you on site in two minutes.

Yes, graded by age: up to six years, from seven to eleven years and as junior skis up to fifteen years. For sporty children from around 50 kilograms there is also a Junior Gold class.

Yes, poles are included with all ski sets. They can also be rented separately, in which case a deposit is required.

Helmets are available for adults and children as well as visor helmets. The hygiene cap is included in the price of every helmet.

Yes, the daily rate drops significantly with each additional day. Over a whole week, the effective daily price is considerably lower than for a single day.

It protects the rented equipment against theft, loss and breakage. Exactly what is covered and what to do in the event of damage is explained on the protection package page.

If you only rent ski boots, the binding has to be readjusted according to ISO 11088 and checked electronically. We charge a one-off flat fee for this.

Skis, snowboards and equipment

Among others Elan, Rossignol with the current FORZA series, Goodboards and Nidecker with the Supermatic binding. The rental range is renewed every season.

We go by height, weight, skiing ability and the ski you choose. As a rule of thumb, a carving ski for beginners is about ten centimetres shorter than your height, but the category shifts that.

Especially as a beginner, a current, correctly adjusted ski is more important than for experts. The Silber Class is designed exactly for this: easy to turn, forgiving, no effort required.

Yes, the Silver Class is designed for getting started, with matching boots. For advanced riders, Gold and Platin are available, including the Nidecker Supermatic.

Yes. If you then decide to buy, just let us know – we will find a solution.

We have toboggans in our rental range, and snowshoes too. It is best to quickly ask about availability.

Your shoe size, your weight and your approximate skiing ability. We need this information to set the binding according to the standard, and for children also their age.

At quiet times around 15 to 20 minutes per person, on Saturday mornings a little longer. An online booking shortens the process because the equipment is then already prepared.

Ski depot

The heated depot locker for two people including drying, the open ski rack for skis and boards, and the open boot dryer. The rates by number of days are on the depot page.

Yes, all skis and snowboards from our rental are stored free of charge in the open ski rack. The boot depot with drying is charged separately.

Two pairs of skis with poles, plus ski boots, helmets and gloves for two people. The locker dries boots, helmet and gloves overnight.

The lockers are locked and located in a protected area of the valley station. For rental equipment, the protection package also applies if you have booked it.

Yes, the depot is open to everyone – regardless of whether the equipment comes from us.

Just a few steps. You take your skis out of the locker and are standing right at the valley station of the Horbergbahn.

Yes, via the same online form as the rental. This is particularly useful between Christmas and early January.

Ski service and binding check

What you bring in the evening is ready the next morning. Smaller jobs can also be done the same day – just give us a call.

V-EDGE is an edge grinding process that sharpens the edge at a defined angle instead of removing material. As a result, the ski grips noticeably better and the edge lasts longer.

Repairing the base, grinding the edges, applying a structure and hot waxing. On request, we also check the binding at the same time.

Once a season and whenever your weight, shoe size or skiing ability has changed. A check also makes sense after a hard fall.

It is the international standard for adjusting ski bindings. The values are calculated from weight, height, age, boot sole length and skier type and then checked electronically on the testing device.

Not always. Our rental boots have GripWalk soles, which do not belong in older bindings without GripWalk approval. Bring the ski along and we will check it in two minutes.

Yes, base, edges and wax just like with skis. Binding mounting and checks as well.

Ski boots and boot fitting

It is usually due to the width or volume, not the length – a boot that is too big often pinches more than one that fits. With the 3D foot scanner we measure length, width and instep height and find the cause.

It is free of charge before every ski boot purchase. The scan takes just a few minutes, after which we discuss the result together.

It is foamed directly on your foot and then fits without pressure points. We work with models from Boot Doc and their Quick Foam technology.

A process in which the shell of the ski boot is heated and adapted to the shape of your foot. This can relieve pressure from wide forefeet, heel spurs or a high instep.

Yes, other brands and older models too. Bring the boot along and we will take a look at it.

If your foot sinks inside the boot, yes. The Perfect Fit insoles support the arch of the foot and at the same time improve power transmission to the ski.

Allow just under an hour for advice, scan and adjustment. It is best to book an appointment in advance by phone or WhatsApp.

Ski touring and avalanche equipment

Touring skis including skins and poles, a touring boot with pin binding and the avalanche safety set. All three can be rented individually or as a package.

Pieps avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. That is the minimum equipment for any tour off the piste.

Yes, we explain how to handle it and the search mode when you pick it up. For proper training, however, there is no way around a course with a mountain guide.

Several ascents towards Horberg and Penken start from Schwendau and Hippach. Which one makes sense and is acceptable in terms of avalanche risk depends on the avalanche bulletin – ask us on site.

Only with a frame binding, not with a pin binding. Our touring skis use pin bindings, so you need the matching touring boot.

Yes, the skin comes ready cut to fit the respective ski.

Cross-country skiing

Skis including poles plus the matching cross-country boots. Both can be rented by the day or for the whole week.

Yes, both techniques. When you pick up your equipment, tell us which technique you want to use – skis, binding and boot differ.

The nearest trails run in the valley between Mayrhofen, Hippach and Zell am Ziller, plus high-altitude trails in the inner Zillertal. We will tell you which ones are currently groomed.

Yes, the classic technique can be learned in a groomed track in one morning. A course on the first two days saves a lot of frustration.

It is not mandatory, but it makes sense when skating on steeper sections.

Shop, hygiene and sustainability

Visor helmets from Atomic and Slokker, self-tinting ski goggles, gloves from Reusch, ski boots, socks and accessories. Plus used skis from our rental.

Yes, all the time. The models come from our rental, are serviced and considerably cheaper than new ones.

Ski boots and snowboard boots are disinfected and dried after every return. With helmets, the hygiene cap is included and handed out new for every guest.

The lens adapts to the light conditions in about a tenth of a second. This means you no longer need a second spare lens in changing weather.

Rental equipment is used by many guests, professionally maintained and then resold instead of sitting in the basement. For anyone who skis a few weeks a year, it is the more resource-friendly option.
